Perm Mayor Aleksey Demkin held a meeting with students
The issues the students took a particular interest in covered the Economic and Social Development Strategy for Perm City currently under design, the plans for the coming 300-year anniversary of the city and the creation of new jobs.
The Perm City Administration analyzed the results of the annual event – The Day of Young Specialist - aimed at those graduates who would like to start their job career in local government. The event attracted 20 students from Perm higher education establishments, all of them activists of various competitions, conferences and forums and some of them already taking their internship at the administration. The students were briefed on the responsibilities of local authorities and the mechanisms of their implementation. The active participants of this and other events have an opportunity of a part-time employment with the city administration other than in public service; however, this might as well become a full-time municipal service job in the future.
The key point in the event was the meeting with the Perm City Mayor Aleksey Demkin, joined in the question-and-answer session by the head of the Mayor’s Office Svetlana Ivashkina and head of Municipal Service Division Galina Britvina.
– Being a student is one of the most vibrant and active parts in everyone’s life. The most vivid memories of my own student years, among all, are connected with sleepless nights of exams preparations and inspiring performances in “Students’ Spring” festivals. The municipal authorities are concerned for attracting proactive, motivated and creative staff. I wish you every success with graduation and hope to see you as our future employees,” noted Perm Mayor Aleksey Demkin.
During the meeting, the students asked the Mayor about the preparations for the coming 300-year anniversary of Perm City and the current infrastructure projects to be completed by the date. The students also showed a high interest to the Social and Economic Development Strategy for Perm City which is currently being worked out and the priorities as set by the Mayor. Aleksey Demkin commented that preparations for the city’s 300 birthday had started several years before and the infrastructure projects include renovations of the Komsomolskiy Avenue, landscaping of the Esplanade and the Embankment, refurbishing the houses facades. As to the socio-economic development strategy, the Mayor stressed that a number of workshops had been held with the representatives of a variety of industries which gathered the feedback on the society’s expectations of the city authorities. The proposals will form the basis for the strategy designed for a 10-year perspective. The draft strategy will be discussed at the Mayor’s Experts Council in the end of May.
Prior to the Mayor’s meeting, the students enjoyed the guided tour of the historic building at 23 Lenina Street, now housing the City Council and City Administration. The business program of the event also included the workshop «Professional competences needed in a municipal service job» followed by a round-table discussion moderated by Kiril Samarkin, Director of Technical-Administrative Inspection. The participants were also briefed on the main guidelines for road traffic and parking in Perm, as presented by the Perm Road Traffic Service Director Maxim Kis.
As earlier stated by the Perm Region Governor Dmitry Makhonin, public administration needs young and active staff willing to contribute to the welfare and development of their native city. Openness of the authorities, dialogue with residents, especially with the young and enthusiastic ones, are extremely important both for the city and the region. Such an interaction, combined with common ideas and united efforts, ensures for the better and faster change.
